There’s a moment when many women stop stepping in front of the camera.
“I’ll do it later,” we say. When life slows down. When we feel more confident. When we feel more like ourselves again. But later keeps moving. Seasons change, children grow, chapters close. And suddenly, years have passed and you think ‘why didn’t I do that when I was younger’.
After 40, something shifts. Life has shaped us. We carry more depth, more perspective, more truth in our eyes. Yet this is often the age when women become the memory-keepers instead of the memories. Behind the camera, organizing the photos, making sure everyone else is documented. In my portrait studio serving women in Raleigh, Cary, and beyond, I see this all the time. Women who have lived full, meaningful lives, and have very few photographs of themselves to show for it.
